K-Laser Blue Derma

At Charlestown Cosmetic Medicine, we use the K-Laser Blue Derma for all our laser treatments. The state-of-the-art laser technology utilises blue light, which offers several advantages over infra-red laser, including improved accuracy and minimal damage to surrounding areas.

The Blue Derma 445nm wavelength laser accurately targets the melanin in the skin, offering great results for reducing areas of pigmentation.

Procedure

Depending on the concern our doctors may prescribe topical therapy, to begin prior to treatment, in order to further enhance results. We use topical numbing prior to laser treatment, which can be performed anywhere on the body. The laser only targets and treats the pigmented area, without damaging the surrounding skin. Laser energy heats and shatters the pigment, which is then drawn to the surface. Over a couple of weeks the pigment will fade, or dry and flake off, leaving the skin with a more even complexion.

Possible side effects

Common side effects can include:

  • Transient darkening of the pigment
  • Redness
  • Mild swelling

Aftercare

Following the treatment, the pigmentation will initially appear darker and continue to deepen in colour for 48 hours. After this, the pigmentation will form a crust and gradually flake away. This process can take up to 14 days.

It is important that you avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks prior and 4 weeks following treatment. Sun protection is a must for any pigmentation concerns in order to maintain results. We recommend daily SPF 30/50+, and if in direct sunlight to reapply every 2 hours and wear a hat.
